Mastering Part 3: Taking Your IELTS Speaking Skills to the Next Level
Welcome back, champions! 🎉 Today on AOC’s Blog—Your Global Gateway to English Learning—we’re diving into Part 3 of the IELTS Speaking Exam. This is where the real magic happens. Or chaos, if you’re not prepared. Let’s aim for magic, shall we?
What’s Part 3 All About?
In this part, the examiner asks opinion-based questions related to Part 2. It’s like a polite debate—but only you get to talk.
How to Crush It
- Speak as Long as You Can
- The examiner has limited time. If you give a long, detailed answer, they won’t have time to ask another question. Win-win!
- Use Humor (Carefully)
- A little humor can lighten the mood. For example:
- Q: “Why do you think dining out is popular?”
- A: “Because nobody likes doing dishes!”
- A little humor can lighten the mood. For example:
- Show Off Your Tenses
- Talk about the past, present, and future to demonstrate your range. Example:
- “In the past, people dined out on special occasions. Now, it’s a social activity. In the future, I think restaurants will focus more on sustainability.”
- Talk about the past, present, and future to demonstrate your range. Example:
- Start on Topic, Go Off Topic, Come Back Again
- Add a personal anecdote and tie it back to the question. It shows creativity and fluency.
- Ask for Their Opinion (Bold Move)
- If they don’t cut you off, finish with: “What do you think?” It’s confident, engaging, and polite.
